NONTRADITIONAL - Southland Transportation School Bus Recruitment

These are some shots of a campaign that ran for Southland Transportation. They appeared on the side of the school buses. It was a great way to represent their recruitment at a low cost. What are your thoughts?

PRINT - (Update) CBS embeds 40-minute video ad inside 'Entertainment Weekly'

Here is a snippet of the bite-sized video ad in the September 18th issue of Entertainment Weekly. I want one! AdFreak made an interesting point about the effectiveness of the ad, stating, "As a stunt, it's extremely effective. As a new form of media, it's dead out of the water without some more interactivity. It's too bad it can't respond to its environment and work together with an out-of-home campaign." Hmm... an interactive ad...smellivision for perfume brands with menu selection, personality tests in celebrity magazines with results immediately updated, promotional ad campaign where user can customize whatever it is representing the promotion to their likings and show off to others, recruitment interactive tests for potential candidates to see how a company would suit them. Oh what the future can bring. Have a great weekend!

PRINT - CBS, Pepsi Create Video Ad to Run in Print

This is a form of advertising that always seemed like a space age dream to me for first decade of the millennium. Sure I have seen it in the movies and thought it to be an awesome way to flip through a magazine; but the day is finally here-well almost, September 18th. CBS and Pepsi are teaming up to promote Pepsi Max men's diet cola and sponsoring CBS's Monday-night line-up in Time's Inc.'s Entertainment Weekly that distributes to Los Angeles and New York area subscribers. NON-TRADITIONAL: Disturbing Billboard Bleeds When It Rains

If drivers in Papakura, New Zealand weren't getting the message before, they are now. According to Gizmodo, since the billboards have gone up, not one fatal accident in the area has occurred. Gizmodo: Disturbing Billboard Bleeds When It Rains

PRINT - Odd beasts abound in Seattle's film-fest ads

This is a fun advertising campaign, "Find the unexpected" done by WongDoody for the Seattle International Film Festival. Look closely at each and find small silhouettes that make up the overall image. Quite unexpected huh? This is a creative approach to get the public interacting with the theme, each poster remaining consistent to the campaign, but providing a new visually puzzling challenge.

NON-TRADITIONAL - Air Force, Xbox LIVE hook up to feature recruiting message

Back in November of 2008 the Air Force helped sponsor a series of shorts focusing on Horror meets Comedy on Xbox LIVE in exchange for banner ads, video downloads and theme arrangements for users to download. I am still waiting for the PlayStation 3 HOME to try and take advantage of their system to start holding virtual job fairs. Unfortunately that price range is around half a million at this time... Maybe it will take the action of a job board teaming up with them to bring the cost down and turn it into something that could be feasible for lower cost recruitment. (At least lower than half a mil.)

What are your thoughts on advertising in game/virtual environments?

Have you tried it before?

NON-TRADITIONAL - Museum Resume CV

I believe I came across this on adsoftheworld.com but I am not positive. The idea was that a museum post its resume outside on the building to help generate interest about its history.
There are several ways I could see something like this working towards approaching candidates but not exactly in the same fashion. What are you thoughts?

NON-TRADITIONAL - Great Illustrated College Recruitment for RIM by Matt Vincent

This is a great example of using illustration for a college recruitment campaign.
Stumbled across it today white hunting around for fun recruitment ideas.
The designs are nice and light but active and engaging enough to draw the eye.

NON-TRADITIONAL - Business Cards That Say Something About Your Industry

Sometimes it is the little things that people take away that really stands out. It could be any number of free little items you pass out at a job fair or college event, but the key is to make sure that it is branded well enough to no be a really awesome business card but Company's really awesome business card. Finding a way to tie your business cards for recruitment events directly to your industry might be able to help you stand out from competitors. Hiring electronic engineers? Use a circuit board business card. Hiring for train/rail positions? Use a custom printed ticket. Hiring for your lumber yard or furniture store? Use wooden business cards. The potential is out there, just try to figure out something unique to your industry that pops out from the rest that are going to be at those recruiting events.

Here are some samples of incorporating your industry/profession to your business cards:

NON-TRADITIONAL - Revita Beauty Centre

Clever play on Shiatsu massage technique. I wonder if anybody has ever tripped at the bottom of an escalator checking out this spa ad? Even if it takes a few snagged shoes, the message should get across in the 2 seconds passing.

NON-TRADITIONAL - goodpeopleindia.com

Although the idea is unique I wonder if the website could be read if you were standing on the ground... It is a great alternative and probably a cheap alternative to really hit those that are already working near you. If they had a banner that extended down some that displayed the text larger I think it might have worked a little better. What are your thoughts?

NON-TRADITIONAL - The Best Job in the World!!!

Here is the print ad:

Check out the website: http://islandreefjob.com/

This is not necessarily straight recruitment advertising but more of a PR and branding move; but still, they are hiring... I wonder how hard all the people who are submitting their names are going to get pelted with marketing material later?

NON-TRADITIONAL - Bring Your Kids to Work Day

I thought this was a clever way to get the word out about the Bring Your Kids to Work Day that was approaching for this company.

Not quite recruitment advertising but close enough. ;)

NON-TRADITIONAL - Recruiting Strategies — Proximity Recruiting Using a Taco Truck

I found a rather bold article on ere.net today that talked about Tokbox recruiting from Yahoo by setting up a taco stand across the street from the building and offering a free lunch to anyone wiling to have a quick chat. The speed that they talked to these potential recruits was helpful in that the quick conversations helped to keep the employees from becoming too nervous. Some might consider a campaign like this in bad taste, but then again, who is losing and gaining the employees?
What are your thoughts on a bold move like this towards your competitors?
