INTERNET - The agency site reborn as YouTube channel
Agency BooneOakley took a bold and creative approach by directing their website to their YouTube channel. Check out the links on the side and watch the videos that follow. What do you think of it? Would you rather go to a website or do you think a YouTube channel is enough?

INTERNET - Dot-JOBS Addresses Could Be Opened Up
This covers an interesting movement towards releasing some restrictions on the use of .jobs for websites. It would have mostly to do with the name of the domains that could be purchased. (like nursing.jobs, engineer.jobs instead of companyname.jobs) At the moment there are certain things owners of domains with the .jobs label must comply with before the domain is secured. What are your thoughts on the details?

INTERNET - It’s Web 2.009: Is your company’s career portal keeping up?
ERE's post about the usability of a website for your recruitment surprised me a bit. One of our coworker's son actually has a career devoted towards testing the usability of websites. Basically, he checks through a site to make sure that it is easy for consumers to navigate, clear and clean in design so you can accomplish tasks efficiently and offers suggestions on how to adjust sites to fit the target audience's needs. This articles offers a quick overview at reviewing your own career's site in the aspects of usability, efficiency, performance, recall and emotional connection. It can certainly bring attention to aspects you might not have previously considered.

SOCIAL NETWORKING - What's Hot

I found this article on ere.net talking about recruiting trends as they continue to change. Recently recruiters have found ways to use social networking to their advantage. Twitter is a good example that recruiters have put into power by announcing open positions and staying connected with the unemployed. With the increased unemployment rate, it is less necessary for employers to use talent strategists to conduct their employee search. Essentially each social network is an online resume that the employer can quickly tap into and interact with the candidate. In turn, the job seeker is able to connect with your company, getting a feel for it as well as the people behind it. Creating social networking for your company is a great way to build on your employment brand by engaging and interacting with job seekers, forming a bond. Employees tend to become more loyal to companies that are true and open to employee input. It seems that they are more likely to stay longer with the company and build a stronger team when provided with quick and easily accessible training outlets. An example of this can be online videos that are posted onto YouTube, or job specific discussion boards on Facebook where they can bounce ideas off other individuals within the company they work for. There are so many ways on the internet to connect and grow your company's profile. I wonder where this will take recruiting in the next year from the more traditional means of recruitment advertising? It's interesting to see how people view this rapidly changing industry. Check out the comments below the article in this link: ere.net-What's Hot What are your thoughts?

INTERNET - Be Careful What You Post

This is a nice example of being mindful of what you post online or write anywhere for that matter. In this day in age, information travels fast and anyone can see it. Recognizing this and remaining conscious of it are very important both to employers, candidates, employees and anyone in between. You never know who is watching/reading/following/stalking your posts/tweets/blogs/pods.

INTERNET - 100 tips to find a new job

I stumbled across this today while hunting for different types of video campaigns done by companies hiring. This is a site called 100 Cheer Girl that was created by Soft Bank Human Capital in Japan (yes, it seems that I have been on an Asia recruiting kick lately...) and the videos show 100 girls offering advice with how to find success in your career and finding a job. So far I have only found this offered in Japanese.
The campaign consisted of it's own web page along with a youtube.com page that contains all the videos. http://www.youtube.com/user/100cheergirl
Evidently there was a quiz that popped up that tackled the videos and what they covered. Granted, in America this might not have been quite so politically correct but the idea kind of reminds me of an extended version of a coal companies website that had videos about the facts of mining and the company's history that candidates were then offered a pop quiz over. Developing something like this that tackled various positions within your company and then offering some kind of way to quiz followers and display results and maybe ranking could be a great way to involve your candidates.

INTERNET - Navigaya Multimedia Platform

I have always wondered what the internet would look like within the next few years. Navigaya is an amazing multimedia platform that I came across tonight on Brand Flakes for Breakfast that enables users to browse a series of search engines, customize playlists, listen to music, stay in tuned with events of interest, and best of all connect with others.
Research • Connect • Relax - Nice huh?
WARNING! You are at high risk of addiction - Navigaya

INTERNET - Zurich Financial Services Group recruitment website
This is a recruitment site that utilized video in a little bit of a different manner than I have seen so far. (I came across this a while ago but had been having difficulty viewing the video. It seems to run much smoother now.)
You start up by meeting a recruiter at a cafe and they display different types of humorous jobs and after you make your way through the videos you meet with a recruiter from their company and it takes on a bit more serious and informative role.
Take a look and let me know your thoughts.

INTERNET - Leveraging the Internet for College Recruiting: 6 Easy Tactics
Here is a great article from ere.com that tackles the topic of using the Internet to approach college students. Although I don't necessarily believe in cutting out visiting the campuses altogether, the points it delivers are strong. College students may spend more time online and may communicate more with their social networking sites and blogs, but face time is important. The job fairs are a chance to display your company in a way that can't be done online. Shaking hands and making personal connections are what help drive home your invitation to apply. Here is the article:

INTERNET- Resolving The Loss of Brand Control Caused by Social Media
The following is an excellent article explaining the importance of staying on top of your brand in the social media of the internet. Although you might not have time to actively post and paticipate on the many social media sites that are popular, that does not bar anonymous posters from assuming your company's identity and posting for their own reasons. These social networking and media sites may not have the staff to maintain a constant review and verification of newly registered names among their domains and your company's name could very well be at risk of an unknown individual posting, with good intentions or not, without the approval of your company's departments.Recently a page on Twitter was removed when someone posted as Exxon Mobile and chose to act as a voice for the company. At this time I do not know whether it was taken down by the individual or if Twitter removed the page at the request of Exxon Mobile. This article makes an important point about including a page on your main website or recruitment site that offers a listing or a official stance towards the social networking/media sites. This would allow all viewers to know exactly where the offical pages are and what are potentially misleading entries.
I believe the Twitter page was still up on Wednesday but it came down on Thursday. Check out the article; it makes some very important points that should be taken into account.

Here is a great article about improving your recruitment blog or at least tips to keep in mind when starting to develop your own. Some of the key points he mentions include honesty about the job positions and work environment, keeping the entries as informal conversations between you and your candidates, responding to those that comment and staying consistent with your postings while keeping them relative to the time they are posted.
The post also makes an important point about revealing a little of yourself on the blog to help make a much more human connection between yourself and the potential talent reading through your blog.
