TNT's Guerrilla Marketing Stunt = Awesome!

A Belgian agency, Duval Guillaume Modem used guerrilla advertising for TNT which
generated 4.5 million views in its first 24 hours. This advertising approach was set to be one of the most viral ads of the year.

TNT set up an area on an open corner somewhere in Belgian, with a plank that had a button on top with a sign above it that reads, “Push for Drama”. Once the button is pushed a theatrical display is performed, with lots of drama acted out by various actors. After the performance a banner unveils from the building that says “Your daily dose of drama TNT”.

Guerrilla advertising is an entirely different marketing approach. It’s interactive, unique, engaging and most of all an attention grabber. This advertising strategy is a thought-provoking concept that conveys and promotes a product or an idea.
There are different types of Guerrilla such as, graffiti, flash mobs, giant elevator ads that move up and down with the elevator, pretty much anything that are creative non-traditional ways of advertising the products.

There are many advantages in this marketing strategy; the main advantage is that it is unexpected and catches us off guard, which causes an emotional response whether it’s laughter, sadness or even shock.

This type of earned media gets people talking, when people see the advertisement they will not only remember it but will spread the word generating awareness.

What/Who Influences Your Candidates to Apply?

While this chart is more geared towards who influences decisions to buy rather than recruitment the concept can carry over. This just offers a little more incentive to consider social media recruitment because of the trust connected between friends referring friends to apply to their favorite companies.

Employees in ads

Employees are not always found in just recruitment ads but they also help define a personal face to your company in general marketing and branding. At the same time they also help foster the understanding that your company takes an interest in the employees and empowers them. Most people are going to have exposure to your company before they even start looking for a job. What message are they receiving right now?

MILITARY RECRUITMENT - Mi Navy Spot

Portada-online.com posted an article talking about the release of a new marketing direction for the Navy that serves as an extension to their current campaign "A Global Force For Good."
The campaign is planned to incorporate radio, print, digital and social media along side the video spot.

This is a great example of clear and specific branching of a campaign while remaining in the same vein of the feel and tone that was initially set down.
When creating your campaign it is important to identify your primary target followed by your secondary targets. After the ground work is developed you can then branch from you first target and adjust to meet the needs of the secondaries. You might cast a wide general net in your initial actions of the campaign but then narrow by age groups or interest groups to strengthen the approach towards the niche markets.

BRANDING - Intel's Marketing/Branding

Intel's work in their marketing/branding is a great example of opening the door to what their environment is like. This not only helps with branding but also the general image for recruitment because people will already have a general idea of what Intel is like.

SOCIAL NETWORKING - What's Hot

I found this article on ere.net talking about recruiting trends as they continue to change. Recently recruiters have found ways to use social networking to their advantage. Twitter is a good example that recruiters have put into power by announcing open positions and staying connected with the unemployed. With the increased unemployment rate, it is less necessary for employers to use talent strategists to conduct their employee search. Essentially each social network is an online resume that the employer can quickly tap into and interact with the candidate. In turn, the job seeker is able to connect with your company, getting a feel for it as well as the people behind it. Creating social networking for your company is a great way to build on your employment brand by engaging and interacting with job seekers, forming a bond. Employees tend to become more loyal to companies that are true and open to employee input. It seems that they are more likely to stay longer with the company and build a stronger team when provided with quick and easily accessible training outlets. An example of this can be online videos that are posted onto YouTube, or job specific discussion boards on Facebook where they can bounce ideas off other individuals within the company they work for. There are so many ways on the internet to connect and grow your company's profile. I wonder where this will take recruiting in the next year from the more traditional means of recruitment advertising? It's interesting to see how people view this rapidly changing industry. Here is the print ad:

Check out the website: http://islandreefjob.com/

This is not necessarily straight recruitment advertising but more of a PR and branding move; but still, they are hiring... I wonder how hard all the people who are submitting their names are going to get pelted with marketing material later?
