TNT's Guerrilla Marketing Stunt = Awesome!

A Belgian agency, Duval Guillaume Modem used guerrilla advertising for TNT which
generated 4.5 million views in its first 24 hours. This advertising approach was set to be one of the most viral ads of the year.

TNT set up an area on an open corner somewhere in Belgian, with a plank that had a button on top with a sign above it that reads, “Push for Drama”. Once the button is pushed a theatrical display is performed, with lots of drama acted out by various actors. After the performance a banner unveils from the building that says “Your daily dose of drama TNT”.

Guerrilla advertising is an entirely different marketing approach. It’s interactive, unique, engaging and most of all an attention grabber. This advertising strategy is a thought-provoking concept that conveys and promotes a product or an idea.
There are different types of Guerrilla such as, graffiti, flash mobs, giant elevator ads that move up and down with the elevator, pretty much anything that are creative non-traditional ways of advertising the products.

There are many advantages in this marketing strategy; the main advantage is that it is unexpected and catches us off guard, which causes an emotional response whether it’s laughter, sadness or even shock.

This type of earned media gets people talking, when people see the advertisement they will not only remember it but will spread the word generating awareness.

RECRUITMENT VIDEO - Job Search Television Network (JSTN)

This would be another way to go about posting a recruitment video. It is directed more towards facts on the position and company and has a much more organized tone. This is also something that would not be created by your company but is instead part of an already establish channel on YouTube.com.

What are your thoughts on this approach?

VIDEO - Recruiting gamers, Nintendo Wii

This may not be a commercial recruiting job seekers, but Nintendo takes a nice approach to reaching new and old gamers to check out their upcoming release, "Punch Out!" Recruitment videos should be just as fun. Get footage of your employees on the jobsite doing their job, talking about challenges that face them throughout the day and plan of attack to reach goals. It could make for interesting concepts in different industries.

VIDEO - Cisco Recruitment Video

Recruitment videos are a great way to provide candidates with an insight to your company. It gives them an idea of the opportunities available for positions, locations, activities, and how they can use their skills across the board. Talking about why your company is important to the community and how your employees will make an impact can be powerful. Job seekers want an idea of the daily tasks that will be expected of them as well as an insight to the people and environment. Why not show them? Are you getting your message out for jobs seekers to easily access online?

INTERNET - Tripling Traffic to Your Careers Site With a Facebook Account?

This was a great article posted on ere.net that covered Sodexo's entry into the world of social networking and their success. What are your thoughts on your company's stance towards social networking? How do your competitors stand? A few days ago I saw an article posted about Amegy Bank of Texas and their policy never to use social networking for the recruitment process. What are your thoughts on this policy?

HR PRACTICES - Domino's Reacts Cautiously, Quietly to YouTube Gross-Out Video

(Pic quite well related.)

This might not be on the hiring side of HR but it is still important to consider when evaluating your brand's online image. Two Domino's employees took it upon themselves to film each other doing various things to food orders that would be sent out to customers. They posted the videos on YouTube and by now have had over 21,000 hits/views.

How would your company react to current employers defaming your company with their actions in public? Does your company have a set risk management plan?

Find out how Domino's is dealing with the individuals:

VIDEO - Ladders' little monster airs some grievances & new "Chairs" video

Here is a behind the scenes look at The Ladders' commercial I posted earlier this week with commentary from several of the little monsters. It is a nice little follow through on the original placement.

Yet another spot for The Ladders job site called "Chairs."

VIDEO - How Much of a Typical Video Online Is Actually Watched?

A recent study posted their findings about time length spent on watching videos.
Although this holds some weights particularly for those advertising with Youtube when their ads fall past that first ten seconds, this is also important to note when developing recruitment videos as well. When you are developing your message to be displayed to all you candidates, maybe keep in mind that the most important message, whatever will sell your company best, needs to be in the first ten seconds. It needs to stop your candidates and urge them to continue, whether to find out more about that point of points that may fall under similar interests.
When creating online videos, it would seem, based on the number that the best amount of time to display a video while hitting at least half of your viewers would fall between 30 seconds and 45 seconds.
What are your thoughts?

ONLINE - YouTube tosses 10-minute limit to show full TV episodes

Read more - Don't Bore Your Audience

This might not reach out to recruitment yet, but I wanted to offer a word of warning for those creating recruiting videos should the 10 minute limit be eliminated for general postings.

Just because the time limit is there doesn't mean your candidates have the patience to sit through a 20 minute recruiting message.

Keeping the videos short and focused help to drive points home without losing the attention of your audience. Most candidates are looking for a straight forward delivery of information reviewing who the company is, what they can offer them and how the candidate can contribute. Think more along the lines of TV commercials and don't try to shove too much information into one video. Split the topics up and let candidates choose what to watch based on what is important to them. If you are interviewing people, let each have their own one minute video and in the video description leave a clear explanation of who they are and what they do. This lets your targets have a clear path to the information they are seeking and helps to cut back on the amount of people who give up half way because they have to sift through loads of information to find what they want.

It is a little different once you have your candidates in the door and sitting with you as you display an employee video, though it is nice to try and limit those to 10-15 minutes so they don't get distracted.

RECRUITMENT VIDEO - YouTube’s ‘Insight’ is awesome baby!

Recruitment videos are not limited to creating expansive micro sites but can also be uploaded to YouTube and then embedded into your corporate site in your careers section. This is a great and simple way to post and track who is watching your video. “Insight” allows you to see how people are viewing your video, how popular it is, how they are finding it and even brief demographics of your viewers!
